The following message, which unfortunately arrived a little too late for Games in Växjö comes from Erik Compton from the USA
Erik, a 28-year-old professional golfer on the US PGA tour, who very recently competed in the US Open Golf Championship in Pebble Beach, is a double heart transplant recipient receiving the first donor heart at the young age of 12 and the second two years ago. His mother, who is Norwegian, runs an Organ Donor Foundation in Miami, Florida.
Because of his high profile in the US golfing world, great media coverage and publicity has been generated by his heart transplant and his ability to compete at the highest level of his sport, Erik does tremendous work for organ donor awareness and the transplant community.
TO ALL GOLFING COMPETITORS AT THE EUROPEAN HEART & LUNG TRANSPLANT GAMES
It is a great honour and my pleasure to send you my sincere wishes for
great rounds of golf. I wish I could be there to compete with all of
you. As half European – Norwegian myself, I know that by birth you are
all great athletes!!!
We are all winners having overcome tremendous obstacles and we owe it
to our organ donors to live healthy active lives honouring the greatest
gift of all; new heart and lungs.
Have a wonderful time and keep fighting and raise awareness of the
importance of being an organ donor.
Cheers and good health
Erik Compton
